RS-232 Interface Communications
The ZRS is a popular choice for users who prefer RS-232 serial communications to the entire range of NCD devices. RS-232 is still a popular choice in industry because of it’s simplicity and ease of use. The ZRS remains one of our most unique devices, as it fits NCD devices equipped with a communications module socket, allowing any of our devices to use RS-232 serial communications. The ZRS is available in three popular options, allowing users to fit their preferred installation requirements. Functionally, all three are identical, providing true RS-232 communication voltages for the TX/RX lines.
ZRS-A 3-Wire Screw Terminal Version
The ZRS-A had a 3-wire screw terminal block, TX, RX, and Ground for direct wire serial communications. Simply connect to your computer using wires for a quick and easy interface solution.
ZRS-B DB-9 Serial Interface Version
This DB-9 Female version is a great choice for users looking to connect a standard DB9 extension cable between a computer and the remote device.
ZRS-AB 3-Wire DB-9 Interface version
The ZRS-AB is the best of both worlds, as it includes a DB-9 connector and 3 wires that connect to a ZRS-A module. This is particularly useful if you need to mount the DB-9 connector a few inches from the controller.
Usage & Electrical Specifications
The ZRS module is designed to operate at 3.3VDC powered by the communications module socket. The ZRS maps the TX, RX, and Ground lines ONLY, and does not make use of the CTS, DTR, or any other serial communication lines. The ZRS is typically used in combination with NCD devices, though it may be compatible with select 3rd party devices. The on-board MAX202 or compatible chip is used to generate +/-10VDC voltage levels as per RS-232 specification. Power, TX, and RX LEDs illuminate to visually demonstrate communications. To use this device, simply plug it into a NCD device equipped with a socketed communications module, connect to your PC computer, and run our Base Station Software (ncd.io/start). We have tested communication speeds up to 115.2K Baud with excellent results.
