Healthcare facilities such as clinics, hospitals, long-term care facilities, and freezer storage units are all under an immense amount of pressure these days to maintain safety, wherever possible. One facet of maintaining such safety is ensuring doors are only opened or closed whenever absolutely necessary. We know, this sounds like a simple task. There are many freezers and coolers holding ample amounts of food required for both patient’s needs, as well as staff. If a freezer or cooler door were to be left open, it could mean spoiled food for an entire population of patients and healthcare workers – resulting in thousands of dollars of lost goods. This type of loss also trickles down to the supply chain – it could take some time to restock lost inventory, resulting in shortages for the entire hospital, and probably overtime for quick restocking purposes.

Covid-19 vaccines are generally stored in an ultra-cold freezer between -90°C and -60°C (-130°F and -76°F). If it were determined that a freezer door were open for an extended period of time, these vaccines would not be permissible for use.
