Wireless Activity Detection Gen4 Datasheet

Explore The Wireless Activity Detection Gen4

Device Overview

Introducing NCD’s Gen4 Industrial Wireless Activity Detector. Utilizing a wireless mesh networking architecture, this device offers an impressive wireless range of up to 2 miles. It incorporates a high-accuracy acceleration sensor that measures changes in acceleration to reliably detect mechanical movement (activity).

Upon detecting activity, the device immediately transmits a message to a remote gateway or modem, then returns to a sleep state for a pre-configured period. It makes extensive use of hardware interrupts to enter the lowest possible power state while sleeping, maximizing battery life. In addition to transmitting data when activity is detected, the sensor also sends regular “check-in” messages at set intervals. This ensures you always know the detector is online, fully operational, and actively monitoring.

Features:

  • Industrial Grade Accelerometer with 3-axis for Activity Detection
  • Configurable Activity Detection Parameters with Interrupts

NCD Activity Detect Gen4 Overview

Status LED

The Status LED is used to indicate errors or other sensor diagnostics.

LED blinks once – Message was sent successfully and no error in last sensor read as well in data transmission.

LED blinks twice and then one more time – Message was sent successfully but there was an error in last sensor read.

LED blinks thrice (quickly) – MCU is having issue communicating with the radio module.

Power Requirements and Expected Battery Life

Power Requirements

  1. This device is Powered by a single D-cell (LR20) battery

While changing the batteries:

  1. Turn off the sensor
  2. Only use a new D-cell battery (obtain one from NCD, as it has a built in supercapacitor, this is not a regular battery).
  3. Make sure to align the connector in the proper orientation (this will assure you match the polarity)
  4. The battery should not be replaced in fire-risky areas
  5. Do NOT install a rechargeable battery
