Many contributing factors come into play when considering water damage to your server room or IT facility. 

• Freezing temperatures can be a huge contributing factor when it comes to water detection. During the colder winter months, pipes can easily freeze and burst. If this water runs into your data center, it could spell destruction for your assets. 
• Flooding within a community could also cause catastrophic damage to equipment if not detected at a very low level early on. If a person were able to detect pooling water at a very low level that was gradually rising, he or she could potentially save the equipment from major damage. 
• Community facilities can also spell trouble for data centers. Generally speaking, the only room in a data center is not just a server room. There will be places such as a break room with a sink, and restrooms for employees. These types of facilities can provide a threat to leaky pipes or overflows at any given time. 
• Electrical fires also pose a threat when it comes to water in a data center or server room. When water comes in contact with an electrical outlet of any kind, it can immediately start a fire – if there is a water leak, it is a fire hazard and needs to be detected immediately to dispel the risk of combustion. Which leads into fire sprinkler systems: 
• Sprinkler systems within a data center can also run a risk of destroying equipment if wrongly expelled. Of course, these systems are necessary for fire safety, however, if a sprinkler system is set off my an unknown source mistakenly, it could spell major damage for the facility if not detected quickly.
• Air conditioners and cooling racks can be another risk for water leaks in a data center. Air conditioning units can create condensation that may drip onto servers and other IT equipment and assets. Cooling racks are another source of temperature control that a data center may utilize, which uses cooled liquid to decrease the temperature of the server rack. If any of this coolant leaks, it could spell disaster for any equipment on that rack.
