C1D2 Industrial IoT Wireless Door Open Closed Sensor Datasheet

Device Overview

NCD’s new C1D2-certified long-range wireless door open/closed detection sensors set an industry-first standard for IoT devices designed for hazardous environments. With C1D2 Group A, B, C, and D certification, these sensors are ideal for locations with explosive gases, dust, fibers, or flammable vapors, such as chemical plants, oil refineries, paint shops, mills, silos, and mining facilities. They support hazardous substances including Acetylene, Hydrogen, Ether, and Propane.

The sensor minimizes power usage by sleeping between transmissions and wakes every 15 minutes—or when a door or window state changes—to send updates. This design enables up to 10 years of battery life, depending on conditions and transmission intervals.

The sensor acts as a wireless push notification transmitter, detecting door/window states via a magnetic switch and sending alerts for open or closed conditions. With up to two detection probes on a 4.5-meter cable, it’s perfect for security applications requiring reliable, long-range communication. Alerts are sent when magnets move into or out of proximity with the sensors, making it ideal for monitoring doors, windows, gates, and other critical areas.

NCD offers a complete ecosystem of C1D2-certified long-range wireless sensors with open protocols for seamless software integration. Use an NCD Gateway with Node-RED to decode transmissions and connect to platforms like AWS®, Microsoft Azure®, or your own MQTT broker. The system ensures secure, private data handling while allowing integration with virtually any cloud platform.

Status LED

The Status LED is used to indicate errors or other sensor diagnostics.

LED blinks once – Message was sent successfully and no error in last sensor read as well in data transmission.

LED blinks twice and then one more time – Message was sent successfully but there was an error in last sensor read.

LED blinks thrice – MCU is having issue communicating with the radio module.

Power Requirements and Expected Battery Life

Power Requirements

This Sensor is battery powered

Powered by AA batteries (NCD recommends Energizer L91 batteries).

While changing the batteries:

  1. Turn off the sensor
  2. Only use new L91 batteries
  3. Checkout the polarity marking on the battery holder and batteries
  4. Replace all six batteries with new L91 batteries. Do not mix old and new batteries
  5. Batteries should not be replaced in fire-risky areas
  6. Do NOT install rechargeable batteries
